The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” against what it calls “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the US on five European individuals working on fighting online hate and disinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions were placed on figures that were central to efforts to introduce legislation governing American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
