Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments came to light.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could enable a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to ensure success in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His offspring, his son Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.
