This Supernatural Story

The acclaimed director tests his directorial skills in this innovative supernatural story captured wholly from the viewpoint of the spirit. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their recent residence, the filming device – representing the ghost – tracks their movements. This is an entertaining concept that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, multiple showings, the Sky channel

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Cage fully commits to his eccentric image in this meta comedy caper. Recruited by the CIA to spy on the alleged criminal, Cage's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” comes in handy. This Saturday, evening, on Channel 4

The Black Phone Horror

Derrickson's locked-room horror stands strong despite the lack of a follow-up. Set in the late 70s in Denver, several child abductions has left the local kids frightened. After Finney is taken by the villain and imprisoned in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the non-functional line in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices providing assistance, and the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel

This Dramatic Portrait

In the conflict between God and Mammon, the victory is clear for materialism in this director's delightfully tacky true story about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple begin capitalizing on the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of tacky decor, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, Film4

Black Bag

The current week's additional entry from Steven Soderbergh presents a spy mystery as precise like the turtlenecks sported by Fassbender's British agent. Each performer excel of deadpan cool, leading to a delightful mind game of deception or honesty takes place. Additional actors join in the smart espionage amusement.
